About Mike Segal
To enjoy what you do in life is everything I am the luckiest guy in the world. Well at least one of them, for sure. I married my girlfriend, Marvi, who was my gal in the 5th grade at North Beach Elementary School on Miami Beach, Florida. I paint every day and love to paint. You will figure that out when you look at the thousands of paintings I have produced over the past 46 years as an artist. My art career started off in 1964 when I made my first painting and then in 1968 I became a professional photographer living in Coconut Grove, Florida on Loquat Street, that was before it was fancy shmancy. I then graduated from North Carolina State University, School of Design with a degree in Landscape Architecture. After graduating NC State,...

Nice, Mike - I like the tribute to Pac NW native artists.
Mike Segal replied:
Dear Grace, Thank you for the kind words about my pictures. The Shalom Dove is for sure a NW Coast influenced piece. I lived in British Columbia for 2 years, 1970-71, and I had an opportunity to study their work close up. The Tree of Life is in a way also a totem. I was commissioned to make a front door design for a couple who had moved to Cedar Key from Miami Beach. So I used a Miami Beach hotel bass relief sculpture from the Mayfair hotel as a starting point and put some color to it and a tessellation angel fish design. To the Jewish people, the Torah is the Tree of Life as it gives us everything. The Studebaker is from a sketch I made at a Crystal River car show 15 years ago. My friend had a 1967 Camaro at the show and I made several drawings of that car and some others as well. I will have Beach Buick at the shop in Cedar Key this winter as soon as I get it done. The Small Boat Regatta was from a sketch I made at last years regatta at Cedar Key. Thank you for purchasing the Pier for your collection and I hope you visit this year. Ask at the desk at Island Arts what day I am working. This year I usually will be at the shop on Monday's. With my very warmest regards, Mike
